Et112 over ethernet (Internet) tcp

Hi Folks,

Not sure if this is the correct section, however I've been looking for energy monitoring solution.

My solar system is in a shed 100m away (lots of digging). I have ethernet for Internet but need Internet so can't use ethernet for rs485 alone and power lines obviously run to the shed. Therefore I needed a way to send load energy meter data to multiplus ii in shed.

I have 100a supply and didn't fancy the added cost of the ethernet supported meter with ct clamp (which I found very painful to even find where to buy in the UK)

I therefore took a risk with the et112 and two rs485 to eth adapter from waveshare (I purchased them on pihut)

They're quite cheap feeling and the Official name is RS485 TO ETH (B).

The setup being one rs485 to eth setup as a client the other as a server.

Et112 rs485 -> RS485 to eth client device in consumer unit - > Internet

-> rs485 to eth server device in shed - > rs485 to usb to raspi/multiplus

Just wanted to share as the rs485 to eth were £20 each so much cheaper than ethernet meter.

It also doesn't require installing custom firmware/drivers ie what some folk seem to have done to get other brand ethernet meters to work ie shelly 3m. Which was more daunting for me to attempt.

Any questions give me a shout

Thanks,

Matt

Still checking latency however seems minimal

Hello @matt1309 , did you just use the 2 wire setup for this and what baud to you use? Setup today with a Moxa MGate MB310 but not getting any data from the ET112. Same requirement as you to meter power 200M away.

Hi @3716rm

I set baud rate equal to 9600, databits 8 parity none, stopbits 1 and flow control None.

I used a 2x waveshare rs485 one as server one as client which i assume is how moxa gate works (just a more premium version). So i wired in ground, 485B and 485A ports.

Just to flag if Mozagate is TCP/IP then you might struggle with 200m, i believe ethernet limit is 100m unless you use some specialized cables.

Hi @matt1309 , Got the same setup here (Barn is closer to the house), also with 2 waveshare devices. They connect (LED is blue) but CerboGX is not seeing the ET112. Have a 3 wire connection on both sides.(Ground, A and B). Did I miss something?1709374387842.png

Hi @Eureka

I'd test it using a computer with the carlo galvazzi software if I were you. You can then at least confirm it's not the gx.

I maybe also check you've got the rs485 to usb adapter wired up correct (A and B the right way around). Testing with carlo galvazzi software will prove/disprove this.

Maybe try enabling no data restart. And making the numbers quite small. Found this helps with reliability.

As I can't spot anything there.

Here's my settings just incase they're useful. For both client and server

Server

Client

Hope this helps

I Got the software but, don't now how to connect to the ET112.

Got a second ET112 in the Barn and that is working fine. (direct connection from ET112 to GX)

Tried them both single, but only the one with direct connection is working.

Read something about an ID that you have to change with the software, but as I mentioned before, I haven't go a clou how to do that.

Do you have ET112 as server or client ? (Mine is client)

Hi @Eureka

Ahh that's the issue. I have a server and a client. One at meter end one at gx end. You can maybe use one device but youd need to edit the modbus layout to mimic a modbus meter like the em24. Or write a custom driver on gx device to read that device

Hi Matt, had a tough weekend trying to connect the et112. First I tested the two Waveshare RS485 to Ethernet devices on functioning. Set both on the IP adress of my computer and use the Vircom Software to connect and they both work. 1709588933570.png

above is realtime, not from the weekend.

Next thing I did, I started up the carlo galvazzi software and tried to make contact to the ET112 on com 3 . That didn't work. Next step I use a 30 meter RJ485 and made a connection to the GX device and disconnect the ET112 that is in the barn. In the dashboard it said ET112 Disconnected but the ET112 did not showed up. Last hope is to connect my laptop one on one with carlo galvazzi software to the ET112 and see if I can change the Modbus ID.

I'll keep you informed.

PS. Witch side is Server and Client? ET112 = Client?
