I want to install a 500W MultiPlus, but I have a hairdryer that is around 1500W that I'd like to only use when connected to shore power. Is this possible, and can anyone explain how this would work?

You should be able to, the 500VA Multiplus has a 16Amp transfer relay so that when you are plugged into shore power, the Multiplus just passes the shore power through the inverter direct to the sockets. The shore power is wired as an input to the Multiplus and the pass through happens automatically when it is connected. However, if you only have a 6Amp shore power supply and you are 230V then the shore power will not be enough for 1500W. If you have 16Amp shore power you should be good for just over 3000W.
