What size victron unit?

I have two 350watt hyundai house panels on a caravan and im haveing big troubles getting it to charge an ark pack battery system for a 12v fridge. Ive currently got a cheap mppt 30a unit and its not haveing a bar of it constantly overheating even with a fan added. Ill spare the details but ive seen the light now and am going to drop some coin on a real unit. So which model victron mppt will be adequate to take the two 350watt panels running in parallelscreenshot-2021-04-22-09-54-58-37.jpg and make it a nice clean 12volts without a problem. Ive attached the stats of the panels in a pic. Cheers in advance dave.

I’d say a smart solar 100/50 would do

The naming of Victron MPPT chargers includes the maximum PV array voltage and the maximum battery charging current.

For instance SmartSolar 150/60 means the maximum PV array voltage (in coolest weather you can have) must not go above 150V (DC). And that charger can charge the battery with maximum 60A current.


Also "Smart" from SmartSolar means it has Bluetooth built-in.

BlueSolar chargers do not have Bluetooth built-in.

Get a SmartSolar MPPT (one which has built-in Bluetooth).


You want a charger with at least 50A battery charging current. If you want the charger to run cooler, then get one which can charge the battery with more than 50A.


Also, make sure that your battery can take that current (but if not, you can limit the battery charging current from the charger settings).


Another option is to use two smaller chargers, one for each 350W PV panel. In this case, look at >25A units (battery charging current). This is also a better choice if you have shading issues on one panel at a time.


With A Voc=45.4V, if you change the PV panels wiring to series, then the charger must be from 150/xx series.
