Why can't a 12,8 V 20ah Lithium SuperPack battery be mounted on the side

The datasheet tells you to only use the battery in upright position. Other manufacturers versions of the same formfactor and capacity can be mounted sideways. What will happen? Degraded performance? Danger of overheating or explosion? Will it leek?

I plan to use these for powering fishfinders and lighting in kayaks, so upright is not always ideal.

Hi @TWC, welcome to the Community!

Battery mounting requirements are always determined by the manufacturer, as the internal bracing and other construction of a battery varies by manufacturer. In this case, SuperPacks are not internally braced appropriately for side-mounting, so mounting in such configuration may lead to premature failure, which failure would likely not be covered by warranty since the battery was technically installed incorrectly.

Other manufacturers that permit side mounting have different internal bracing and construction, so make mounting recommendations based upon their knowledge of their construction.
