Battery Protect 220A + Phoenix Smart IP43 problem

Ι have a Battery Protect 220A on a LIFePo4 system that controls the charging

The Battery Protect is set at Li-ION mode

The BMS is not Victron

The charger of the system is a Phoenix Smart IP43 50/3

The problem is as follows

The Battery Protect is off (via the BMS – charge is complete)

Connect the Phoenix Smart to mains power

Enable the Battery Protect (The BMS thinks it is time to recharge)

The Battery Protect throws error E1 (Short Circuit Detected)

The above is not the case with other charger (but the charger is 25A – not 50A as the Phoenix Smart)

If the Battery Protect is enabled before the Phoenix Smart is connected to mains power, then no error on Battery Protect. Everything works as intended

The battery protect has a peak current of 600A, so I was not expecting this

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Did you install the BP in the correct orientation?
Charger connected to IN and the battery to OUT?

You also could control the charger directly, you don't need the BP in between.

Thank you for your reply Matthias

Yes I am aware of the directional nature of the Battery Protect modules

The charger is connected to IN and the battery connected to OUT

I am also aware thet i can control the charger from the provided "remote" connection but -

1. the Battery protect is more "hard" cutoff, ensuring that no charge can happen if the charger decides to go rogue and

2. I am very nuch concerned that the same maybe will happen with the alternator of the sailboat. The alternator is capable of > 90A when cold. And i cannot test it now. The yachts are on the drydock

In any case the question remains. Why I get E1 (short circuit error) when the Battery Protect engages AFTER the Phoenix Smart is connected to shore power and NOT if the Phoenix Smart is connected to shore power after the Battery Protect is engaged

600A peak compared to 50A of the charger should not yeald this result

Also the connection I am using is illustrated on the Battery Protect manual

Anyone with a good explanation?

Controlling the Charger with the remote connection does not solve my problem
The Battery Protect in LiIon mode have a 30 second timeout to reconnect the loads, resulting to the same outcome

i get E1 (short circuit) error when the Battery Protect engages after the Charger

i would really appreciate any feedback on this issue
