Renaming assistants (MultiPlus)

Hello,

when using multiple assistents and interconnecting them with each other through the AUX inputs, a device setup can get quite extensive.

To be able to rename (subnaming?) them would make life much easier to keep track of what assistent is doing what without having to make a map. Who remembers which of the "programmable relay (x)" is doing what after programming various of them in one setup and then wanting to change or add something? :)

Thanks for any advice on how to rename (tho I guess it's not possible)!

Hi,

i ´m just having the same problem. It would be a nice feature beeing able to rename assistants (like e.g. "switching heater off" or "alarm light on")

Hi @offroadflow, unfortunately this is not possible.

Please keep in mind that this Community is a knowledge-base and primarily utilized by other Victron owners/installers/distributors; you should not take offense that Victron staff has not responded here, for they are very rarely active in this forum.

Since Victron does not sell to the end-user they also do not directly support or provide specific technical assistance to the end-user, and instead rely on their global network of technical distributors. Should you ever have a pressing technical question regarding the capabilities of your Victron component, please follow the support procedure and reach out to the authorized distributor from whom you purchased your component.

I'll also add, from a product development point of view, that VE.Config is slowly being phased out in any case, with programming capability being shifted to the far more user-friendly and cross-platform VictronConnect application instead, so hopefully someday soon there won't be any need to use the multi-step and somewhat cumbersome Assistants at all and the inability to rename the Assistants will be rendered moot... it will doubtless be a bit of a wait, but vast strides toward that end goal have been made over the past year in particular, so it may not be too long of a wait after all!

...the special questions just get ignored in this forum. Seen this in other occasions too. Not really helping the development of the products unfortunately.

If you want to rename an assistant, you can try to use the translate function under Assistants Tools.

Leave the translation as is and just save the "translation" under the name you want. In the assistant's directory from config tools a file is added with "nameyouwant" (012C).tst

Now your VE Configure will use your new name and attach it to the 012C assistant in the software you use. The (012C) is ID from Programmable Relay and used as an example. :-)

To remove or change, find the "nameyouwant" file and remove it or copy it to another directory, the software will use the default ID again.
