Can my SmartShunt be installed inside my battery box on the tongue of my RV? The battery is lead acid so the box does have ventilation holes. Could I install it inside of a box inside the battery box, if I have room?

You'd need to avoid corrosive gasses and splatter from the batteries so I wouldn't recommend mounting above the batteries.
Generic battery boxes are not all that watertight. The vents and cable openings do allow a small amount of water to enter the box especially when driving in the rain.
A gas/watertight box inside the battery box would probably work, but I'd mount in a watertight box just outside the battery box. Use watertight glands on all I/O to the box. Try to avoid direct sun on the box to avoid excessive heat buildup.
