The VE.Net protocol has been deprecated, and the fact you may be still able to buy it will be just a support thing for legacy kit.
The BMV is the way to go if you've no legacy needs.
The list of protocols is quite imposing, a little like the rear of a high end entertainment system.. and it can evolve, progress eh.
