Multiplus II 48v 3000v : High AC grid consumption during battery charge set at 25A

I have just setup my Multiplus 48v 3000 and bluetooth dongle. I tested a bulk charge of 4x12v 105A batteries in Serial. I set input charge set at 25A. I was horrified to see it pulling around 2000w from the grid to charge the battery bank. Is there some other setting that needs adjusting or is this normal?

Thanks

Tim

Yes there is another setting - no not adjustable by the BT dongle. Have you done any other programming on the inverter?

The 25A is the AC input current limit (and is labelled as such) amps not the battery charging amps. So set to 25A at mains voltage is much more than at battery voltage. It was probably charging 40 to 50Amps into the battery.

If you set the input way lower it will curb the charging. But you will need to set it right down to 4A to drop it to 1000watts if your mains voltage is 230v.

Hi Alexandra,

Thanks for the quick reply. :-)

I have not done any programming on the Multiplus except for the changing the input current to 25A. I have the looked in the manual and from what I can gather it seems to use all the available grid power available. Nevertheless charging 4x105A=420A 12V bank in serial 48V, 40A-50A would seem feasible though right?

Is there a way to see the charging rate via bluetooth? I also have a Smartbatterysense on VE.Smart network if that is any help but could see anything there. What input current would you suggest? Somewhere in between ie 15A or 10A?

The problem is I also have an 2000w AC water pump on the same fuse which causes it to trip when it starts and the Multiplus is bulk charging. Maybe moving the pump on to another fuse might be a better solution?

Thanks

Tim
