Carlo Gavazzi VN2

I've just purchased a house with an off-grid setup with two Quattros, BYD battery pack, etc and backup diesel generator. The fuel tank has a Carlo Gavazzi VN2 sensor in it, which has been wired into the Cerbo GX which is detecting no sensor. Am I right that this is actually an on/off sensor designed for use with a relay/contactor, and won't ever give any useful indication to the Cerbo GX system of fuel levels? At some point there was a previous system with lead-acid batteries and I think this sensor is left over. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive replacement that will do the job properly for my nylon tank? Apparently it's a 1.5" thread in the top of the tank for a sensor.
