I'm currently using the Multiplus 2 5 kVA model that doesn't have an ESS assistant installed and has Solar and wind priority turned on.
After reading a lot of info about Multi RS Solar I'm curious to know if it is possible to achieve the same behaviour with it, in other words to disable its grid synchronisation and make it operate like an off grid inverter?
The reason I'm hesitant about grid interactive operation (ESS) is my mixed experience with it in Multiplus 2. I've installed the ESS assistant (and selected the optimized mode) on MP2 and run it for a couple of days and noticed that inverter self-consumption increased approximately twice from ~0.6 kWh per day (which is totally expected) to ~1.2 kWh presumably due to necessity to synchronise with distorted grid sine wave. This may not seem like a big difference but I have a small solar array and that 0.6 kWh difference can consume almost half of produced solar energy during cloudy autumn days. I've since simply resorted to enabling the Solar and wind priority and disconnecting the grid on sunny days and running the system off-grid, which also decreases my overall energy usage as I don't have to keep the voltage stabilizer turned on during the off-grid times.
I've recently seen a thread by @Andrii Podanenko with similar concerns so I think that my assumption about a bad sine wave root cause is correct.
So just to reiterate is it possible to disable the grid synchronisation / grid parallel / grid interactive operation in Multi RS Solar and make it operate exactly the same way as Multiplus without ESS assistant?
