Victron and Apple Home Kit - basic support?

Hello,

Any chance of a comment on support for basic Venus to Apple Home Kit features?

We are looking for ways to automate a few simple things like: if the battery is full or the PV is above a certain wattage, switch smart outlets on and off. Would only need for the Venus data to be allowed to be used in creating automations. Any comments on whether this could happen?
Many thanks for any feedback..

The Venus device supports Modbus-TCP and MQTT which are common methods for communicating with a variety of Home Automation systems. I understand that people have success with this.

HomeKit uses it's own protocol (HAP) but I am not sure about the specifications of this. You'd need to consult the Apple documentation to see how HAP works in order to develop for it.

Here is a link to the HAP protocol specification, you need an "AppleID" to access it, or so it seems: https://developer.apple.com/homekit/specification/

Hi WKirby,

Thanks. I am aware of that. It would however be even better with native Apple Home Kit support for just the vital Victron data, in order to easily use it for automation on a standard Apple Homekit hub. I would suspect this would be a used and appreciated feature.

Having just looked the Apple docs, it’s looks like Matter would be the standard to aim for going forward. https://www.theverge.com/22832127/matter-smart-home-products-thread-wifi-explainer
