12/1600/70 compacts RCD/RCBO rating and the charger output

Hi VIctron Forum

Just a question about this inverters AC inlet RCBO size and the 70A charger in the compact.

My shore power inlet is rated to 15A and Victron recommend a 16A RCD/MCB or RCBO between the inlet and the inverter so when I see the compacts charger can put out 70A I'm wondering how it doesn't trip everything downstream?...Is this because the charger is putting out DC?...and if so can I use 70A to charge batteries without tripping a 16A breaker?

Any insight here would be very much appreciated...TY in advance!

@Newbee

That will be 70A at the battery voltage so DC.

70ax12v = 840watts. On the ac side that translates to 3.6amps at 230volts. (840÷230)

Ty for the confirmation Alexandra!.

I'm also wondering does a current draw limit needs to be set below 16 amps in the multiplus when drawing AC shore power through the 16A breaker?....With my estimated loads I'll never get near 50% of this but always good to learn more about my future system.
