Unusual Quattro wiring?

Hello community!

I have had a Victron Quattro based solar system installed in my house by a Victron approved installer. Recently, a 3rd party electrician expressed concern on how the Quattro was wired in. This is not as per the Victron recommendations. As you can see from the schematic diagram an islanding switch connects the consumer unit to either Grid or Output 1. This creates a loop from Output 1 to Input 1. Also completely ignoring the fact that the system will go off in the event of grid failure, requiring the switch to restore off grid power. Before I go back to the installer to question this I would like to know the community (and official Victron) view on this.

Is this a normal method of wiring?

Is this acceptable?

Is this safe? (possibly Victron technical admin can answer this)

@PK7

This is not an official ask victron site.

But I can concur as an installer -that is not normal wiring for a quattro.

Ac out 1 should be to consumer unit.

Ac in 1 from grid.

I have seen a unit wired like that. It did remain on, but there were weird things happening like the frequency was strange. (Ans yes was corrected afterwards)

No, what he has done is a complete nonsense.

Under UK regulations the supply to the Quattro also needs to be taken from an RCD which is separate from all other loads and the correct rating for the Quattro, and be provided with a lockable isolator (not shown). You would need a separate CU to provide this, a "garage unit" would be suitable.

The changeover switch can then switch between grid in and AC-Out 1 as in my installation below (the house and garage have separate switches). These are only for test and maintenance purposes. You will not have to do anything if the grid fails, the automatic changeover is provided by the Quattro.

If it has an off-grid capability then you also need to have a separate earth electrode, I bet he didn't fit one of those either!

@PK7 please clarify Quattro or Quattro 2 either case as said the wiring is wrong but if Just a Quattro you need the anti-Island relay as Quattro’s UK requires two relays for isolation from the grid. Exception to the rule Multi 2 and Quattro 2 which have two.

But as the two posts have said this is not an official wiring config this video will show you the configurations

hope that helps
