Internal battery temperature

img-7375.jpegHello,

We have a 12 volt smart Victron LiFePo4 battery which today while charging from shore power registered an internal temperature of 51 degrees C. The external temperature (and batteries internal starting temperature before charging) was between 31-33 degrees C. I am panicking slightly as have read that the max operating temperature is 50 degrees C however my other half seems to think this is regarding the external temperature (which stayed at 33 degrees C). Is a temperature of 51 degrees C while charging something to be concerned about and if so what should we now do? I had expected the charge to cut off automatically at 50 degrees C but clearly that didn’t happen. For context we would prefer to keep the external temperature lower but at the moment 33 is also the air temp here.

Thanks!

The temperature is measured on the balancer PCB and rises during charging/balancing.

Do you know what internal temperature is too high while charging?

@Jenna

It will stop charge and discharge if there is a problem. That is what the BMS is for.

You are correct it is 1°C over what the technical datasheet operating voltages say it should be, hence the warning. It is a slight overshoot.

You can't cool pcbs inside the battery though, so it is. Abit out of your control.
