Installing Solar MPPT in a campervan

I'm installing the Solar MPPT in my campervan. I currently have a relay that connects the leisure battery and starter battery together when the engine is running so that both batteries charge from the alternator. Will this setup be ok with the Solar MPPT connected to the leisure battery and the engine running? Or should I disconnect the MPPT before running the engine. Both batteries are lead/acid. Thanks

This set up should be fine, if the alternator charges at a higher voltage than the MPPT then the MPPT will stop charging. If it is a bidirectional sensing relay and connects on high house battery voltage then the solar will keep the engine battery topped up aswell. This will not happen if it is ignition or only starter battery voltage activated.

Thanks pwfarnell. It's just a normal relay that's closes when the alternator starts turning.
