Smart Shunt Question

Hello, I am adding a smart shunt on my mercedes van build. The builders connected the batteries negative straight to chassis ground and then the positive of the loads are connected to the batteries positive terminal and the the negative of the loads is connected to chassis ground. Will this shunt work correctly if it is simply placed in between the battery negative and chassis ground?

Thanks

Yes it should. You have it in the perfect position as it is the only thing between load and battery.
