Dear Victron Developers! Dear Community!
Victron chargers (e.g. Orion XS, Orion-Tr Smart, SmartSolar MPPT, Blue Smart etc.) always start a new charging cycle if the voltage on their input side drops once and is then restored.
For example, with the Orion XS with its minimum absorption time of 30 minutes (adaptive absorption), under certain circumstances this leads to an almost permanent stay in the absorption mode, because especially in cars with automatic start-stop or with solar chargers on the starter battery (input side of the Orion XS), voltage fluctuations keep occurring below the threshold of the engine shutdown detection of the Orion XS. This is not good for LiFePO4 batteries and leads to a significant reduction in the service life!
With a simple option in the settings menu you should be able to set that no new charging cycle should start if there is sufficient voltage on the input side. Instead, the (old) charging cycle should continue in the corresponding charging mode depending on the actual voltage on the output side.
This option could ensure that the voltage on the LiFePO4 battery (output side Orion XS) actually falls back to the float voltage or even storage voltage over days and weeks.
After activating this option, another option should certainly appear, which, for example, specifies the time interval every how many days the absorption phase should be initiated. After all, a LiFePO4 battery also needs to balance and other devices (e.g. SmartShunts, BMVs) need to recalibrate the charge level.
Can Victron confirm the problem and provide a solution?
