BMV-702 small current measuring problems

Hello.

With my BMV-702 I have the experience that the current is not measured correctly with small loads.

At a current consumption of 80 mA I get a reading of about -0.13 A (when the backlight is off).

When the backlight is on, a current consumption of approx. -0.11 A is displayed (approx. 20 mA less than without lighting).

I have calibrated the BMV.

What could be the cause? Is the shunt or the BMV-702 unit possibly defective?

Thank you.

Many greetings

Felix

@felix.steinbeis, the BMV-702 only draws between 3 and 15mA (0.003A - 0.015A) with the backlight off, so what you're seeing isn't the BMV at all but rather a phantom load somewhere... or a non-phantom load that you've forgotten to account for, such as a status LED on something, or a clock, or...

Generally speaking, for most practical applications I'd consider mA draws negligible in terms of how much I'd be worried about tracking them, but if it's relevant to you then I suggest physically disconnecting the entirety of your system other than your BMV and then slowly reconnecting wires until you find the culprit.
