I was made aware that you can put The MPTT Controler into a maintenance mode were it stops the current going through whilst you work on the electrics. I would be greatful if anyone could help me with this .

You can disable the charger in the settings, as noted in the user manual: https://www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/Manual_SmartSolar_MPPT_75-10_up_to_100-20/en/troubleshooting.html#UUID-a0168621-0d9f-0b35-a069-8e4b02d48710
BUT PLEASE BE AWARE that the circuit is still live. Turning off the charger function does not mean that the PV circuit and the battery circuits are not live. Never work on a live circuit.
