We would like to use a BP65 battery protect in a slightly unusual configuration. This is a Heritage Railway application where equipment is powered by a 24v SLA battery charged by a Blue Smart Charger. We need to know when this battery power supply is no longer viable due to some failure. Our idea is to monitor the battery voltage with a BP65 and to disconnect the power to a 24v relay when the voltage drops below the threshold. The rest of the equipment continues to be supplied by the battery. The relay contacts provide a remote alarm and changes the operation of the equipment. So the load we are disconnecting with the BP65 is less than 100mA. Will this be OK. Or is there a better way to do this? Since this is a railway application the remote alarm must be provided by a dropping relay contact.
