Is it possible to measure the heat of an alternator with a bmv712 and temperature sensor. If so, where do you connect the sensor?

This could be difficult on 2 counts. The temperature sensor for the BMV is electrically conductive as it provides the positive power supply and voltage reading to the BMV. The normal location for a temperature sensor on an alternator is to connect the lug one of the alternator case bolts near the rear of the device close to the diode pack. Clearly in this case the BMV has no power supply so will not work. You could attach it to the main positive power connection, the temperature may not be as accurate but the BMV would work, but it would report alternator voltage not battery voltage. If you were competent/confident you could try making up your own device with wiring runs from the battery to a temperature sensor on the alternator that was electrically insulated.
The second reason is I believe the temperature sensors are ranged up to 100degC which is too low for alternator monitoring as they often work at this temperature or higher.
