right size MPPT Smart regulator?

Hi there,

I bought an MPPT smart regulator to use with two 160w semi-flexible solar panels rated at 8.75 amp each mounted in parallel.

The supplier advised that a 15/75 regulator would be sufficient but now I'm starting to have doubts.

Anyone can confirm wether is appropriate or not?

Assuming you have a 75/15 MPPT and a 12V battery.

Second number is max output current. 12 * 15 is 300W. But charging voltage is going to be closer to 14V, depending on the charge in the battery, so increasing the power potential.

Panels rarely give rated power, as there's lower illumination than used for the rated power. So it's common to add more panels than the MPPT output.

You MPPT is well sized.

I have another question if you don't mind.

after installing the regulator I noticed that the solar is not working when the load is connected to a DC hub and has a few things powered up.

Is it normal for the battery to be partially discharged before the solar kicks on?
