The Multiplus manual (8. Technical Data / page 20) advises that the operating temperature range is -40 to +65°C
Have I understood correctly, assuming a dry, non-humid environment, can I place the inverter outside on the balcony?

Yes also no.
It must be in a non condensing environment.
And don't forget the dust insects ... rodents and other curious creatures... they are not ip65 rated.
So take care of it if you do so and remember there is derating in higher temps...
