MultiPlus2GX + Pytes E-BOX 48100R + ve.CAN

Hi, not sure what I am doing wrong. I am trying to connect Victron MultiPlus2GX (MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32 (ACOut2 switchable)) via ve.CAN with MPPT (SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can 250/70 rev2) and battery (Pytes E-BOX 48100R). But I can’t see the battery.

I tried all combinations = direct connect the battery only via ve.CAN + terminator on Multiplus2 side and battery according to this manual. And I can’t see it on the menu. Cable, I did myself like any other hundreds of cables. But nothing.

Of course the ideal solution is to have connected all via ve.CAN = MPPT + Battery + inverter.

Has anyone the same issue?

I have to setup MPPT manually, but I will be happy to make it work and use all features of “smart” battery.

Recommended setting for battery.

Thanks for advice

So you need a custom cable, the victron type A or B won't work.

Make one that maps Victron (GND -3, CANL - 8, CANH - 7) to battery (GND - 2, CANL - 4, CANH - 3).

3 (CANH) & 4 (CANL) didn't work for my Pytes!

I had to take 4 (CANH) & 5 (CANL)

And 2 as GND. Now its running...

Hi thanks a lot, GND was the issue. My stupidity.

Currently I can see the battery. But I must switch the CAN mode to

But in this mode, I don’t see the MPPT.

The internal GX's had limited CAN connectivity, depending on the age. The issue is probably that the default CAN speed is 250kb instead of 500kb which BMS's tend to use.

Go into settings -> services -> VE.CAN and see if you can change the speed.

-------------------------------

I expect that this combination doesn’t work. Tomorrow I will try to create ve.Direct cable and connect it with MPPT. Is there any way to enable it via ve.CAN (firmware update, etc.)? Or only buy Cerbo GX?

In the future I will need to connect more MPPT and probably next inverter.

Thanks Jarda

If you have a CAN mppt those are 250kb so you can’t mix and match. A cerbo has 2 buses at different speeds for this purpose. You will need to connect your mppt either via vedirect, or via the usb port to vedirect with that adapter cable.

Unfortunately connectivity is limited on an internal GX which is why I recommend an external unit, the cost is about the same.

You can disconnect the internal GX and add a cerbo instead, probably the better option.

Being an unsupported battery, you will need to revert to your supplier/manufacturer for assistance.

Do they even support victron, just having a CAN interface doesn't mean it is compatible?

Hi, thanks for your quick answer.

Yes, they support it (at least it should).

Someone connected it, but he uses Cerbo GX. I have seen A/Q that MultiPlus2GX doesn’t support full functionality as Cerbero GX and it doesn’t support it together with MPPT via ve.CAN.

https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/162805/einstelung-fur-veconfig-fur-multiplus-2-483000-und.html

But I can’t find this Q/A again.

Of course, I will ask the seller if he knows how to connect it. But I am trying to solve it = understand what happened and why.

This are the setting from links above.

But as I say. I try it all. Connect the battery directly (without MPPT) but it doesn’t work. So, I think it will not be an issue of internal GX module in MultiPlus2. I will try to contact the local seller.

What I am wondering, the “manual” didn’t connect the battery directly, into Multiplus2G, but it connects Multiplaus2GX via ve.BUS with Victron Energy Color Control GX and from this it connect the battery. For me there isn’t any reason for this = I can use internal GX module in Multiplus2GX unless I want to use graphical UI. But what confuse me… that I have read on this forum, that the internal GX doesn’t fully support everything as Cerbero GX (I mean connect ve.CAN and BMS and MPPT together). But as I said, I can’t find this again :(

Thanks Jarda

Hi, thanks for your answer.

So I will use ve.Direct for now and later I will use CerboGX. Good to know at the beginning, but this is my first solar power for fun and play, so it is ok :).

“Nickdb” if you can “reenable” it will be perfect, it can be useful for others. Thanks. Jarda
