Cerbo GX temperature sensor

I've used the sensor which comes with the Cerbo to measure water temp. While testing on the bench with a cup of water it was successful. Having installed to the tank it said "reverse polarity", so I swapped the wires around and now it appears to be sort circuited. Are the sensors waterproof? If not is there an alternative I could use to be immersed in water?

It is encased in epoxy, but not advertised as waterproof. Also original use of the temp sensor is for battery terminals where water should not be.

Maybe use the ip65 ruuvi?

The sensor is pretty inaccessible being inside a water tank underneath a van. I'd be concerned about the battery. A wired sensor would be better. I think I may be better fitting the victron sensor between the tank and the insulation
