Cerbo gx capacitor needed in 48V systems?

I recently learned about the capacitor that some install on the power of the cerbo on 48v systems,

I have the HQ2202 no capacitor on 48v system should I consider adding one and what are the specs I should look for in the capacitor?

Buy 1.0mm2 bootlace ferrules with 12mm pin length to make it all work.

We used part # 178-7305 at RS.

Hi, I am struggling to get the mentioned ones. Attached is the one I can get easily but I don't know if it will work.JRA-85-Radial-Aluminum-Electrolytic-Capacitors.pdf

I am also looking for this capacitor. I could get a 200yF / 100V or a 100yF / 63 V. I guess 63V is a bit to low for a 48V Batterie system? Would 200 yF work as well?

i think the 200uF/100V would be better, because it should handle a higher inrush current. Reminder: use industrial grade ones and look for a wide temperature range: 85°C or more for longevity.

I found this document and on the bottom it states that you should not use a low ESR capacitor, how do you determine the ESR?

If it is a low. ESR type, then the ESR value of the capacitor will be stated in its datasheet, you linked this in a previous post.

If an ESR value is not stated then it is most likely a more standard capacitor, not specifically a low ESR type.

Henk if you are in South Africa, I can help you with some - we brought the specified model in from Europe and we brought in the right bootlace ferrules to rework the cable.

Thank you all for your assistance I will get the cap installed asap.

I would like to suggest to @Guy Stewart (Victron Community Manager) to include the requirements of the capacitor on 48v systems in the online manual of the cerbo gx to increase awareness of the requirements.

Thanks and noted @Henk Rademeyer - there will be a follow up announcement shortly on this issue with more detailed and specific information.

Thankfully the affected units are not as widespread as initially thought.

Has this problem been rectified for current production yet. Prefer to wait unitil this is sorted out properly before I upgrade to Cerbo. Supplier her is SA still selling units without even mentioning this issue. When I asked why they are selling them without modification kit they said they have never had a problem.

Hi @Merle.Peter,

Adding the capacitor is no longer necessary with serial numbers that start with HQ2221 or higher.

Most installers will likely not have a problem even with the old stock - it was only in some specific configurations, less than 1%. However in those installation situations where it did present, it would need to addressed or would re-occur with a replacement (due to that installations specific characteristics).

Only Serial numbers: HQ2201xxxxx up to HQ2220xxxx are concerned to add this capacitor 100uF ?

I just buy an HQ2248xxxx, so i'm not concerns by this capacitor ?

thanks
