Will be installing a MultiPlus 12V 3000 and when connecting the Smart Dongle with the temp sensor ASS000100000, manual states that red wire of the sensor eliminates the red wire that comes with the dongle. My question is: can I separate the red wire from the black wire ?
Not sure what you mean, can you post a screenshot what you want to separate.
The cable that comes with the Smart Dongle is appx 20 inches long with eyelet connectors on one end of each. Red has the fuse, opposites connect to dongle, eyelets connect to battery.
Logic says that since the red wire with fuse from the dongle set is not needed because the red wire from the ASS000100000 replaces it. That being said, I should be able to separate the red wire from the black wire completely from the dongle wire set and toss it.
The red fused wire that comes out of the lug is the power/volt sense wire.
The black wire that comes out of the lug, is the temp sense wire.
The 'dongle' with the lug is actually a temperature sensor epoxied into the lug and the red wire on it with the fuse acts as power supply for the temp sensor inside using the lug to get power from the battery AND to power the ve.direct unit (so you don't need the separate red wire, it is T+ and B+), the black wire is the signal from the temp sensor and it goes to T-. Then you have an extra black wire for the negative power of the unit B-.
You need both black wires, they do different things, you cannot cut and drop it off without loosing the temp sensor functionality.You can toss the single red wire with the fuse if you use the external temp sensor.
