Victron’s illustrations show connecting a fused positive to the vehicle’s battery and another illustration shows connecting to the alternator. Does it matter what device to connect to?
Not really. But if you use the charger mostly when the engine is running, it would be more efficient to connect to the alternator. It would mostly be determined by the convinience of where the wires can run.
