What kind of lithium battery?
You can edit the charge settings as you want to match the datasheet of the batteries.
For the MultiPlus it doesn't matter to what kind of battery it is connected as long as the voltage is within it range.
Not too sure what you mean by handle them, but a Lithium charge profile can be selected. Indeed you could even specify your own Voltage limits for Absorb and Float stages in the charger settings tab of VE.Configure software.
Of course the low limits for cutoff can be specified in the inverter settings tab.
These settings are the same for later versions too.
As others have said, with custom charge profiles, you can use almost any kind of battery, including Lithium.
Lithium BMS communication would depend on the battery and your GX device, not the inverter.
An important consideration with the older hardware is that you'll need low temp charge protection as charging Lithium batteries below freezing damages them. Many packaged batteries have built-in protection, but if they don't, you'll need to provide a means of protection. If you're using an MPPT with a SBS or BMV passing temperature data, the MPPT can be configured to not charge below a certain temperature.
