How do I monitor consumption apologies if it’s been asked a thousand times

How do I know what my consumption is if connecting the dc out to an inverter is not reccomended ? And does it do any harm if I do do this ? I have a phoenix 800 inverter and the VictronConnect smart mppt controller I did get a blue tooth dongle for the phoenix but it didn’t tell me anything on consumption if I got the ve direct to usb for it would the inverter then give me consumption ?

To monitor the consumption from the battery, you would need something like the SmartShunt or BMV. But those are somewhat expensive for a small system (relatively speaking).
