Error code #200 on MPPT RS450/100

I just had an alarm via VRM that the newly installed MPPT RS450/100 which has been operating perfectly for a few days is now not charging the battery and is showing the following error:


Solar Charger - MPPT 450/100 HQ2142HTVCQ [277] Automatic monitoring Error code: #200 - Internal error


The rest of the system is working fine although my customer has persistent bleeping from the unit.

Brief overview of system:

Quattro 10000

Pylontech US3000C x 7 modules

Cerbo GX

MPPT RS 450/100

3.4kw of PV in two strings

Can the fault be addressed remotely, will it need a visit or is it a warranty claim?

Any advice gratefully received as I cannot find this error code listed elsewhere

check that all firmwares are up to date I dont know what the error code is though I presume you checked the latest manual

Hi Paul,


Thanks for the reply, the unit has the latest firmware and was running fine before the error, It looks like this is a failure of the DC-DC converter so a warranty claim, unit failed after about 48 hours of operation so a classic early hours electronic failure it seems. Hopefully the replacement unit will sort it out.

Hi @integer63,

That MPPT RS 100A error code 200 tech note is just now being sent out to all dealers that have sold MPPT RS 100A, they should all get a copy shortly if they haven't already.

The situation involves some work and decisions for the dealer about how best they handle their existing stock, replacement stock, and customers. We want to give them some time for that first to help make things as smooth as possible.

For now:

  • Units presenting with the fault should submit RMA to their dealer. Ensure any replacement is HQ2237 or later
  • Units in serial number range HQ2216-HQ2236 already installed without a fault can wait to contact their dealer at their convenance to discuss options. Please be patient for a response, as they may be prioritising service to units that are presenting the fault.
  • Units in that serial number range not yet installed should contact their dealer before installation.

This fault is not a safety issue.

Glad you were able to figure out the root cause. Unfortunatly, I had to switch from the 450/100 to 2 X 250/60 units to get my system functional. I would love to exchange them back but I had to make the purchase on my own. My dealer reimbursed me but did not have the 250/60 units in stock.

Unfortunate indeed, and while I can't promise anything, I can only suggest that you ask, and also ask your dealer to make the request to Victron repairs explaining the situation.

Perhaps there is nothing that can be done now, so please try to take any answer gracefully, but perhaps there is some scope to get your the equipment you want given the circumstances.

HI! I just noticed this document (as a customer), and contacted my dealer. He says my Multi RS 48/6000/100-450/80 (single tracker) can be replaced (HQ2226), but after re-reading the document, it only talks about the MPPT RS 100A.

Can you confirm if other RS devices have the same issue ?

The device is off-grid in the wild, and I'd rather replace it before it fails. It's been operating since a bit more than one month.

Victron also offers extenden warranty for those units. So if you have bad luck and it fails within 10 years, they will swap it out for no cost.

I just had the confirmation from my dealer. The problem is that the single tracker Multi RS can only be replaced by the current dual tracker Multi RS.

This new model cannot handle the solar panels as they are now (2 parallel strings of 4×400W panels). We would need to add new PV cables down from the roof to the solar protection (and change it) then to the 2 individual trackers. This is much more work than anticipated.

But: since the panel layout generates a low voltage (4×49.5Voc) but a high current (2×10.12Isc), maybe it means that the single tracker Multi RS is not in the working area leading to the #200 problem, if the problem is related to high voltage? In this case, I may select to not replace it now.

On the other hand, if the problem occurs with high current, I have to replace it ASAP...

My dealer was not able to answer that question, even though he understands the issue.

It is for sure broken, i had 2 new ones out of the box with the same error, got 2 replacements and now 1 off them has the same error so again broken.

You would beed to take a replacement, if it does not recover after performing the recovery steps.

After replace a CerboGX , that was died, I have the same symptom.

MPPT won’t work anymore.

My RS450/100 with FW 1.10 from Oct 2022 just died with the same #200 DC Voltage error.

When the 2 Solar strings are connected, I measure 0V at the string terminals. Huh, the string inputs seems to be shorten! If I disconnect the strings, I can measure around 350V at moderate sunshine.

That all happend 2 days ago. At that time I have updated my CerboGX to v2.92.

I can't get it back to work. The unit seems to be faulty.

Here the same, one of two RS450/100 is faulty with #200 DC Voltage error after a lifetime of 4 Month without a early Warning.

:-(

All Strings connected on the Unit have a
short circuit, it do not matter the Power State is On or Off.

Whats going on? Is there a official Statment from Virctron?

MPPT 450/100 from 02/2020 works with fw 1.10, no problems.

I sent mine back and got a replacement. New one is working fine for the past week so far. I didn't change any settings so this must be a manufacture issue with the 450/100.

I installed my replacement 450/100 under warranty. It lasted 8 days and died with the same #200 error. Not sure if this is a batch of units or an issue with the entire line but Victron will need to sort this out before I try it a third time. I'll probably need to swap out with 2 X 250/60 charge controllers.

What would be very interesting is the manufactoring date of the broken devices, so we can track it down to a specific time period.

Can you please post the first 6 digits of the Serial number to confirm.

There were improvements after HQ2232 for the 100A and post HQ2231 for the 200A.

That's exactly the timestamp (August 2022) which one supplier told me to be the date after devices has been revised.

We have to fear that devices before this date will be generally faulty, even not knowing when production of faulty devices has been started.

I hope Victron will soon communicate to the community, so as not to lose its reputation.

Another MPPT RS450/100 died after only 1 day of operation, Error 200.

Also an HQ2232 unit. My other HQ2139 unit is still working like a champ.

Any feedback from Victron on these issues?

I have the same error #200 on two RS450/100. The first one started with a charger short circuit code #27 19:29 22. Of May. Next morning the error #200 appears and will not work anymore. The lifetime was 8 months. HQ2220. The other one last only 6 weeks, and the error appears two days after the first RS450 faults. HQ2224. I have sent them in for replacement. FW are 1.11 on both.

Also suffered the same issue (out of the blue - excuse the pun) today, one of two MPPT RS 450/100 suddenly with error code # 200 after working faultless for six months since install. Serial HQ2222, which seems to be a little older stock (it must have been lying in the shop for some time) which I bought. Attempting to do a warranty repair through dealer.

After 2 different 450/100's experienced the #200 error I sent them back and replaced it with 2 X 250/60's and have been working fine for several weeks. I'd prefer my original design with the 450/100 but the problem is solved for now.

After updating the Cerbo GX from 2.93 to 3.00 on Monday, probably completely unrelated - but I now have the same #200 DC Voltage error on the RS 450/100 that has been running since May 19th without problem. The PV inputs are shorted when connected, but read 275v when opened on the isolator. Serial is HQ2224. Last Error is #DC voltage error, 2nd Last Error is #27 Charger short circuit, 3rd last error is #0 No error. Latest firmware on all devices.

How do i request a warranty replacement ?

Warranty is done with the supplier, who logged an RMA request with Victron who deemed the unit was faulty. Now just waiting for replacement unit to ship. I hope the replacement unit has been modified to resolve the problem causing many failed units with #200 code.

The same hit me today as well, one of three MPPT RS 450/100 suddenly with error code # 200 after working fine for four months without any issues. Serial HQ2217 (all three). My dealer did exchange the device on the same day (!).

Unfortunately he only had the same serial range (HQ2217) in stock so my question is: does anyone know if ALL those devices are affected sooner or later or if some never have that fault - so roughly what is the chance that others of my three HQ2217 will die also (%) ?
