During a sunny day I am drawing from the mains but the solar is producing more than i am using. Part way through the day I am fully charged and wasting energy produced from the solar.

Not a lot to go on here, we need more info on your setup.
Do you have the ESS assistant configured? If so, what are the settings.
Properly setup this won't pull from grid unless you have exceeded minimum settings.
