Venus OS with PI3 and Gen4 Touch Display, doomed combination?

This https://4dsystems.com.au/gen4-4dpi-50ct-clb display just so picky even with the base-raspberry-image. Has anyone got this combo working with VenusOS... or do I just go no-touch and directly with HDMI cable?
