EasySolar-II GX 48/5000/70-50 with MPPT 250/100 Fuse Discrepancy

Hello,

We are installing a EasySolar-II GX 48/5000/70-50. It has a MPPT 250/100 installed basically with a MultiPlus II invertor & GX device, the EasySolar manual recommends to use a 200 amp main fuse but the manual for the MPPT 250/100 says to use a maximum of 140 amp fuse.

What do we use please?

The internal topography picture does not show an extra lower rating fuse inside the cabinet to the MPPT

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Leigh

Hi @LeighC

With an Easy box you don't have to worry about fusing the mppt, it will be included within the case as Victron determine. Fuses are really only specified for protecting external wiring, in your case between the battery bank and the Easy.

Thanks John,

I just thought if something when wrong inside the EasySolar it might void my warranty.

I am having trouble buying a 200 amp (recommended) breaker/isolator with over 48volt DC specs, will a 250amp DC one be OK?

I have a 560A/H LiFePo4 battery bank @ 48 v nominal, which is a fair bit of grunt.

Thanks - Leigh

Your warranty will be fine.

Providing your wiring is adequate, say greater than 70mm2, 250A protection will be ok. I prefer an isolator/fuse rather than a breaker. I think Victron supply stuff like this, but may be harder to source. Blue Sea is a common quality marine supplier. Check out their wide range.

There is a separate fuse in line with the SmartSolar-to-battery connection. I've seen a youtube video showing the inside of an EasySolar-II 48/3000 with 250/70 MPPT. This one had a 100Amp fuse for the SmartSolar.

Thanks I will try & find that video, all I can see in a pic in the manual is LEM type current sensor.

Going by that there should be about a 130 amp fuse in there for the 250/100 MPPT

Contacted Blue Sea they don't have a manual isolator that can be used in a working 48VDC nominal system eg 56VDC. 48v is maximum allowed. Only a remote 7700 latching relay can go to 64 VDC

Cant see anything in the automotive range either.

Victron makes a switch for 48v systems.

This Victron battery switch looks identical to the Blue Seas ones I enquired about & Victron say "Battery Switch 275A The Battery Switch has a continuous current rating and is suitable for battery systems up to 48V." Blue Seas say up to 48v. This finishes there & is not suitable for even a 51.2 vdc LiFePo4 48v nominal at rest, let alone operating. They not for a battery system, only a 48.0 volt battery that doesn't exist. I think it may only include a maximum of a 36VDC system.

Can someone clear this all up, it is bewildering to me? is it something to do with regs?

Blues Seas Quote from today, I asked if I could use it for my 48v LIFePo4 system and the reply was

"No, the 6004 is not rated for 48V nominal systems. It has a Maximum voltage rating of 48V, meaning the system voltage should not exceed 48V. "

The Blues Seas 6004 is their basic up to 48v battery switch/isolator.
