Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC with SmartShunt

Because the Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC doesn't have any output monitoring like the Solar Chargers.

Is it possible to add the SmartShunt as a DC Energy Monitoring on a Non-Isolated model?
I've added one to mine and can't seem to get it to read correctly. I think it's because it's a Non-Isolated model.

You would need the isolated model of the Orion to make that work.

Dam that sucks.

That means the likes of Redarc BCDC... won't work either as they run a common ground.

If you wire it up properly, it will work.

You probably missed the fact that I'm trying to use the SmartShunt as a DC Energy Monitor just to read the output of the Redarc only.

If the start battery and house battery both share the same grounding point, any non isolated charging sorce can be used with a smart shunt or a BMV 700 or 712. The shunt is only measuring current going in or out of the house battery. None of the Victron BMV units can measure the output of any single appliance as such, that is not part of their design. To see just what the output of any charging appliance is, turn off all the chargers and view the current and watts recorded on the BMV app. Now turn each appliance on and give it time to go through its checks and balances and set up its best charging it is capable of producing, that reading should be better than the reading with no charging occurring .... switch that unit off and switch the next charging unit on and repeat the process.

Alternatively, read the current/watts on the BMV app, then turn each unit off and watch for the drop in current or watts when it is off to give you an idea of just what it is producing ......

It is a shame the Orion doesn't output the current/watts as a bluetooth reading on the app, maybe that is one of those things they can add in an update in the future. First they have to fix the connectivity and update loading .... but that one is difficult if connection and updating firmware isn't working

You have all seemed to have missed this update Venus OS v2.80.

A BMV or SmartShunt can be a battery monitor, or an energy meter.

I have SmartShunt that I wanted to do exactly the same, monitor the current and/or energy input from my chassis (alternator via Orion Smart DC-DC) as the Orion Smart TR unit does not seem to provide that info. However I have a common ground Orion with both my chassis and house battery connected to the common chassis ground. So I see no way to connect the Smart Shunt as it needs to be on the ground side and it's all tied together. So I cannot measure the current ONLY from the chassis charging via the Orion Smart TR. I wish the Orion Smart DC-DC would simply supply DC current at the output in Victron Connect. And even better if the GX devices could access this same info from the Orion Smart DC-DC. I don't know the internals for the Orion Smart DC-DC to know if if has the ability in hardware to measure the output current? And would be something that could be exposed in the firmware? Or if it would require a new model hardware in the Orion Smart DC-DC unit???? But yes I wish I could do the same thing you ask about here in my DIY RV!
