I have just completed the install of the below 12v system on my sailing boat and am looking to set up the charge parameters before leaving on a 3 week cruise.
2*SmartSolar 75/15s (networked via VE)
SmartShunt 500 (connected to MPPTs via VE)
2* 165 a/hr 12v AGM Batteries (parallel - 330a/hr total). Brand new , never cycled.
1*82watt panel on own 75/15
2*39 Watt panels connected in parallel on separate 75/15
Battery Data
Absorption - 14.1v
Float - 13.6v
Charge Voltage - 13.2
Suggest default tail current 4%
Max charge 50amp (limited by the 15 AMP MPPT in terms of solar max charge)
The other charge source on the boat will be the engine alternator (115a/hr) which will be run on a totally random basis as needs arise.
There will be various draws on the batteries throughout the day (fridge - 3amp when cycling , water pumps 5 amps when used, GPS , lights etc ). Total draw on any given day is ~50 amps.
My question is what best tail current and absorption settings to use so the MPPTS don't flip into float mode too early when they sense the draw on the battery from the various DC loads?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
