PV wire reads 85 volts at 8-9 amps. Mppt only reads about 60 volts at 8-9 amps. Why wont mppt use all the volts?


8 panels . 20 volt/8 amp each. 2 strings of 4 in parallel

What do you mean "PV wire reads?" How did you make that reading? That number doesn't make sense given your description of the panels' circuit.

The controller calculates the voltage where the most power can be produced at the moment. That voltage can and often will be lower than the panel peak voltage spec. That's what "MPP" stands for.

Like what Ben said, 80V is the open circuit voltage.

You need to watch how many Watts the MPPT is making. With good sunshine, the Watts should be close to the power for your array. Don't worry so much about Volts or Amps from the PV, the MPPT will do the maths for you.
