EasySolar stays powered up even when battery disconnected

DIsconnected battery bank using isolator switch and went to open my EasySolar to make some changes to DIP switch settings only to find it is still running! When I added a load to test its state it provided power for a few seconds and then gave Low Battery alert.

Is this normal and if so, how do I make it safe to work on if it has its own backup battery I cannot disconnect?

Do you have solar connected to the MPPT?
This will provide some power to the system.
