Currently I have no way of knowing when I lose grid power and start inverting.What is the simplest way to wire in an alarm?

On the GX under settings-> setup. Enable monitor for grid failure.
If your email is enabled under vrm alarm settings you will be sent a mail that you can either send to an email to sms gateway or (on the iphone) enable VIP alerts for the email address the alerts come from.
Works well for me.
